Comparing roofing quotes can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be. American Standard Roofing simplifies the process by providing the essential questions you need to ask—and our clear responses—so you can confidently evaluate your options and make an informed decision.

Questions about Credentials and Experience

Are you licensed and insured?

ASR is both licensed and insured. We are happy to provide copies to any customer who asks.

Where are you located?

ASR is located at 37800 Hills Tech Dr, Farmington Hills, MI 48331.

Can you provide local references or examples of recently completed jobs?

We take our customers’ privacy very seriously; however, we take pride in having over 400 Google Reviews with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars, which we encourage you to read. We can provide addresses of roofs with certain shingle colors to help you decide on the best fit for your home.

Do you use subcontractors? If so, are they also licensed and insured?

ASR uses both company employees and subcontractors.  ASR fully vets every subcontractor, and the ones we have now have been with us for many years.  Not only do we require every subcontractor to have insurance, but ASR also has an additional layer of insurance.

Questions About Project Scope and Materials

What is included in the written estimate?

Our estimates include a thorough checklist of the details associated with the proposed project, which our roofing experts explain to every homeowner while we are at the property conducting the free estimate.

What roofing materials do you recommend, and why?

We tailor our recommendations to the needs of each individual homeowner. For homeowners who are looking for a standard 20-25 year shingle, we recommend one of GAF HDZ, Owens Corning Duration, Certainteed Landmark, or Atlas Pinnacle, depending on your color preferences.

Will you remove the old roof completely?

Yes, ASR recommends a full tear-off for longer-lasting protection.

How will you protect my property (landscaping, driveways, etc.) during the project?

ASR will use tarps and/or plywood to cover any landscaping, lawn ornaments, or anything else that needs to be protected. We request that anything that can be easily moved be relocated into a garage or further into a backyard by the homeowners, just to be safe. We will use tarps draped down from the gutter line to protect windows from any falling debris as well.

How long will the job take?

The duration of the job depends on multiple factors, including the size and pitch of the roof being replaced. The vast majority of homes in Southeastern Michigan can have the roof replaced in one day; however, we say to prepare for two days just in case.

Questions About Warranties and Follow-Up

What warranties do you offer?

There are two warranties that you need to consider: labor and material.

A labor warranty protects you from an installation error, which is very rare in our case. ASR provides a 10-year labor warranty.

A material warranty, often called a manufacturer warranty, protects you from a defect in the shingles and is offered by the shingle manufacturer. The brands we carry offer a limited lifetime warranty. We are also able to offer upgraded warranties based on the relationships we have with the shingle manufacturers for more protection.

What is your process for handling unexpected issues or additional repairs discovered during the job?

If any unexpected issues arise, we will generally not move forward with any additional major work until speaking with you; however, if the issue is minor, we may correct the problem without speaking with you.

Who do I contact if I have an issue after the work is complete?

If there is ever an issue after the work is complete, homeowners can contact ASR at 248-350-2323 or email us at [email protected].

Questions About Permits and Cleanup

Will a building permit be required for this job? If so, who is responsible for obtaining it?

Not all cities/municipalities require a building permit when replacing a roof; however, ASR will apply and pay for the permit in the areas where one is required.

How will debris and trash be handled and disposed of?

ASR provides a rubber-tired dumpster for every residential roof replacement, with very few exceptions based on specifics of the project, which we will haul away in a timely manner. We perform a full sweep around the property to pick up any debris, which includes the use of a wheeled magnet to pick up any loose nails.
